Geneva, Switzerland. - Geneva Bioinformatics S.A. (GeneBio) has granted Bruker Daltonics (NASDAQ: BDAL) non-exclusive rights for the worldwide distribution of Melanie, its 2D gel analysis software. Melanie is the popular software developed by the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB), the latest version of which will be integrated in Bruker Daltonics' proteomics application, the Proteineer TM suite. Proteineer is Bruker Daltonics' line of powerful mass spectrometers integrated with robotics and bioinformatics to deliver maximum productivity in high-throughput expression proteomics. "This agreement creates an industry-leading, easily accessible package for proteomic researchers. We are very excited to have Bruker Daltonics as a partner, allowing us to promote Melanie as part of an exceptional proteomics solution via a successful life science company," stated Nasri Nahas, Chief Operating Officer of GeneBio S.A. By incorporating Melanie into Proteineer, GeneBio and Bruker Daltonics will achieve a high-performance, efficient and customer friendly solution for proteomics research. Dr. Herbert Thiele, Director of Bioinformatics at Bruker Daltonics, added: "We believe proteomics research scientists will be pleased to have the Melanie software available and fully integrated with Proteineer." Prof. Ron Appel, Head of the Proteome Informatics Group at the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and Chairman & Scientific Founder of Geneva Bioinformatics (GeneBio) S.A. said, "We are proud that Melanie will now have the possibility to serve as part of a cutting-edge proteomics solution which will benefit a greater number of scientists." Melanie is a 2D gel analysis software that helps research scientists browse, examine, interpret, detect, quantify and match all 2D gel images and data, using a unique navigation system. It annotates any object on the gel image with default or user definable categories. Able to accurately track protein expression variations, it uses robust statistical tools, highly versatile querying possibilities and unique display functions. Proteineer enables scientists to extract and manage all the information needed for the identification, characterization and quantification of expressed proteins. It includes gel imaging and cutting, digest and preparation, mass spectrometry and data analysis. GENEVA BIOINFORMATICS (GENEBIO) S.A.
