08.11.1999 - GeneBio appointed distributor of the Melanie 2D Gel Analysis Software by the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB)

Melanie 3 software marks a new generation in 2D gel image analysis software.

Geneva, Switzerland, (November 8, 1999) - GeneBio (Geneva Bioinformatics) S.A. and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) unveiled Melanie 3, the latest version of the 2D gel electrophoresis image analysis software package, which incorporates a unique new navigation system termed the "Proteome Browser". Using contextual windows to facilitate navigation between gels, tables and graphs, scientists now have instant access to related information and can rapidly interpret data with a minimum loss of time and effort.

This cutting edge product is the fruit of an intense two-year collaboration between biologists, bioinformaticians and leading proteomic scientists from Professor Hochstrasser's world famous research group in Geneva.

Melanie 3 enables proteomics research scientists to reliably analyze, compare and characterize protein expression across gels. It provides a rich set of reporting tools, and includes robust statistical functions to help the scientist normalize data for quantification studies. Melanie also provides links to both mass spectrometry data and external databases, to allow seamless querying of public databases such as SWISS-PROT and SWISS-2DPAGE.

"Melanie is based on extensive feedback from both scientists and technicians who work with gels every day," said Ron Appel, one of the three scientific founders of GeneBio. "It is designed to integrate into the laboratory workflow. Both the occasional user as well as the power user will quickly appreciate the strength and flexibility of the program. By incorporating strong statistical expertise and unique display functions to track protein variations, Melanie 3 marks a new generation in 2D gel analysis software."

Melanie 3 gives scientists full control over what and how the information is displayed. With its powerful statistical, querying and reporting functions, its efficient, automated spot detection system, as well as its extensive comprehensive annotation capabilities, Melanie 3 is the perfect all-in-one tool for both single and large-scale 2D electrophoretic comparison studies.
